Most English answers online are correct, but still not helpful.

They explain a word using three harder words. Or they give a grammar rule without showing where people get it wrong. EnglishKnowledgeHub is here to fix that. We give clear answers you can check, one at a time.

A question we get a lot
“What’s the difference between ‘affect’ and ‘effect’?”
Common answer “Affect is a verb, effect is a noun.” That is true, but it does not stop the mistake.
Our answer Try the word “influence” in its place. If it fits, use affect. “The rain will influence the game” sounds right, so: “The rain will affect the game.” If “influence” sounds wrong, use effect instead.

How we write each page

Every page on this site goes through the same three checks before we publish it:

  • 01 Can you use the rule in five seconds, not just remember a definition?
  • 02 Does it show at least one example sentence where the word or rule is used, not just named?
  • 03 Does it point out the exact spot where people usually get it wrong?

If a page fails any of these checks, we rewrite it. That is our whole process. No big team of editors, and no extra words just to make a page look longer.

What we don’t do

We do not list common English mistakes without saying why they are mistakes. We do not add extra facts just to make a page longer. And we do not say a rule always works when it has real exceptions. If there is an exception, we show it.
